Step 3: Additional Data Modifications¶
Overview¶
The primary modifications involved pivoting the publication and author data and merging these pivoted datasets with author signature information to preserve author order (as described in the previous sections). Beyond these changes, only minimal adjustments were needed to produce the dataset reviewed in this report.
Omitted Properties¶
The property http://www.w3.org/2002/07/owl#differentFrom was omitted from the final dataset due to the absence of any values. All other properties were retained to provide researchers with the flexibility to review the dataset and determine which properities might relevant to their work.
Property-specific changes¶
Archived Webpage URLs¶
The original links to the archived webpages for author profiles and publications provided via dblp’s standard webpage interface are prepended with Wayback Machine prefixes (e.g., https://web.archive.org/web/*/") to support proper resolution. In contrast, the output dataset created for this project contains the unmodified URLs (broken links).
For example, the archived webpage for the ISMIR 2004 keynote speech, “Whose future is it?”, given by Phillip Aigrain, is listed on dblp’s website as: https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://ismir2004.ismir.net/proceedings/pha-ISMIR2004.pdf [29]
However, the link provided in the output dataset for the property archivedWebpage_y omits the Wayback prefix from the URL, which does not resolve correctly:
https://ismir2004.ismir.net/proceedings/pha-ISMIR2004.pdf
To improve the functional accessibility of the archived resources, these links have been modified to reintroduce the Wayback prefixes. Notably, this only provides the user with the Wayback Machine search results related to all of the available captures for a given resource and does not provide a specific archived snapshot. Future work could further improve the dataset through integrating archival timestamps as well as status codes (especially for links that do not resolve).
Simplifying Column Headers¶
The outputs of the processed ISMIR datasets for both the proceedings volumes and conference papers currently display full IRIs (Internationalized Resource Identifiers) in the column headers, such as https://dblp.org/rdf/schema#affiliation. While the full IRIs help cross-reference dblp’s RDF schema and clarify the provenance and semantics of each field, simplifying the headers improves CSV readability. To achieve this, each full IRI is mapped to a shorter label. Prefixes are used in cases where naming collisions occur to ensure uniqueness (e.g., hasIdentifier_x and hasIdentifier_y). The next section provides a data dictionary that maps these short labels to their full IRIs for both datasets.
